What does MapReverseConverter do?

It does just opposite as Garmin's MapConverter. It converts new format MapSource maps in older format that is supported with older MapSource (6.13.7) and that could be unlocked with Garmin Unlocker without damaging maps.

It does not convert NT maps to Non NT.

All Non NT and older (and some new) NT map releases uses old file structure and organization. RoadTrip for Mac OS X cannot use maps in the old format. RoadTrip for Mac OS X cannot use maps in the old format, it uses different format, which can not be read with older Mapsource.

This format difference has nothing with NT - Non NT differences (that's another story).

In some newer MapSource map releases (CN EU 2009 NT and some others) file structure is modified to be compatible with RoadTrip for Mac OS X, and new version of MapSource is released which supports this file structure.

They also released program named "MapConverter" to convert maps with older structure to newer so they could be used with RoadTrip for Mac OS X.

One more thing, this new format MapSource maps could not be unlocked with Garmin Unlocker because maps would be damaged and unusable if unlocked with unlocker.

One more word about unlocking NT maps with Garmin Unlocker. Garmin NT maps can be unlocked with Garmin unlocker without damage if:

1. Maps are already in older format supported by MapSource 6.13.7
2. If they are converted with MapReverseConverter in older format
MapReverseConverter is an universal program for any map in the new format. MapReverseConverter does not only convert the maps, it (optionally) installs MapSource 6.13.7 (and POILoader, MapInstall, UnlockWizard) too.

After the conversion process you will have two sets of maps on your PC, the original and the converted one. If you want, you can remove the original files, preferrably through the Control Panel of Windows. Newer versions of MapSource still work with the converted maps, so upgrading MapSource is always possible.

Localization files

When your language is not supported by the conversion program, you can download the required localization files for MapSource for your language below. Copy the unzipped files into the MapSource folder (default c:\garmin6137), overwriting existing files with the same name.

Any ideas on this.

I'm a noob at this, so sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.

I ran the MapReverseConverter 4.0 on the Australian City Navigator files (downloaded from this site).
But the converted files are missing files in the original .gmap\Product1 and Mapsource gets an error while trying to build the mapset to send to my device.

It would be very helpful if the first post was edited to indicate where the required map files that mapconverter needs are hiding. I am using Windows 7 on a new machine having used XP. Maybe this can only be used on an XP machine?

GMAP home directories

GMAP directory for Win Vista & Win 7
Installed for all users: "%ProgramData%\GARMIN\Maps" = "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GARMIN\Maps" that commonly resides on "C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Maps"
There's also a shortcut for "C:\Users\All Users" in Win Vista & 7 that points to "C:\ProgramData". So even "C:\Users\All Users\GARMIN\Maps" will work.
Installed for a specific user: "%APPDATA%\GARMIN\Maps" = "C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Maps"

I noticed one small "bug" with the excellent tool mapreverseconverter. It applies for those of us using a non-english windows os.
The mapreverseconverter uses gmt.exe as the workhorse for the conversion. If there are some "special" letters (for me the Swedish letters åäö) in the path to the directories for source or destination the converter will only produce three files, tdb, mdx and one more. All the .img files will not be produced and the conversion will finish much quicker than usual.
Could be useful info, for me it took a while before understanding why it worked on some of my computers and not on other.
The workoround is of course easy, rename your directories or move to a place with allowed path.
