This look that problem is in map and not in MS.
We know that CN 2013.40 is full of error, so they add in basecamp something that exclude this error or remove something from map.
Anybody try with old version of basecamp released before CN 2013.40?
I think that old version of basecamp will also create faulty img.
You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
Mapinstall is the only current method of installing the latest 2013 and 2014 City Navigator Maps from Computer.
Basecamp just Launches Mapinstall anyway so the result is the same.
If you have LM then use GarminMapUpdater (Online Install) This is the best method as it updates all needed files.
Older CN Maps before 2013.xx can be installed with Mapsource or Mapinstall.
The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
Albert Einstein.
BasCamp doesn't install maps itself, it simply invokes MapInstall to do that part of the task, and if you want to bypass BC altogether to quickly install a map image from a gmap folder you can do so.
The simple answer is we have a choice [and keep in mind that i am an 'MS Affectionado' please], and we can do one of two things:
1. We can keep using MS, risk having faulty images which at worse brick our devices, at best don't cause any problems at all, or cause minor problems /invonveniences such as rebooting, slow refreshing, freezing etc etc. Much as i prefer using MS [the bigger interface alone 's all over MI] i do not want to risk causing problems to myself and, in particular, my family and friends who rely on me to update their units.
Or,
2. We can suck up our annoyance, use MI and have no problems in the real world use of our devices. My tests mirror Rogers, there is a difference in images files from MS & MI.
So everyone, let's just roll with it guys. We may not always agree with such 'progress' but otherwise we risk becoming the 'Garmin Amish'.
If this discussion needs to be continued it should not be here anyway and these redherring posts may make an interesting thread of their own.
EDIT: I just finished browsing again through that Garmin forum thread linked by both Caty & smokefree and i have to draw everyone's attention to this post:
If it wasn't so long, i'd reproduce it here because it really does settle the question as far as i can see. The guy's got 40 years in IT, so we amateurs shouldn't feel stupid if we simply prefer using MS because we find BC/MI harder to master. We are flogging a dead horse in continuing to use MapSource though unfortunately.Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
