I broke the alarms again. The speed/priximity information is displayed, but no alarm is raised when passing close to a POI. On the 37xx, some POIs do not have the "Go" button.
Sorry for that. I'll check again later.
I posted EPE v5.08 beta.
- Corrected proximity and speed alerts for some GPS models. Still no WAV alert.
- When using "File-Export by Symbols (as .gpi)", EPE will automatically add the corresponding symbol as the map symbols. See the rules below.
- As posted before, EPE will read the registry to find your "Language used for programs not supporting Unicodes" and will insert it in the .gpi so it can be viewed properly on your GPS.
Here's the d/l link:
Rules for the map symbols:Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
Let's say you have a POI file called "My Places.gpx" with one of the POI with the "Anchor" symbol. EPE will search the locations below *in order* to find your symbol:
1- EPE will first try to find "My Places.bmp" in the source folder (where your poi file .gpx or .csv or ... was opened.
2- Next, it searches for "Anchor.bmp" in the Where-To icon folder as specified in the Preferences.
3- Next, it searches in its own internal bank of symbols and automatically adds the corresponding symbol bitmaps.
4- If not found, it uses a small 7x7 square icon as the map symbol.
Right now, the internal map symbols are 24x24 pixels. It is perfect for all new GPS models (like the 37xx series) with high resolution display. For older models (like my 760), 16x16 map symbols are much more appropriate. If you supply your own map symbol bitmaps, I suggest to make them the appropriate size. The most convenient place to put them is in the Where-To folder as specified in the Preferences. Use also 256-color bitmap and use magenta for the transparency.
Note: I don't know about you, but this is getting pretty exciting to me...

Your Tool is almost a magic tool now.
I can make a .gpi file with Thai font without editing codepage by Hex editor anymore.
Tool can make catagories by symbols perfectly.
Symbols saved from Mapsource are displayed on map correctly.
I saved 4 waypoints , 4 Symbols from mapsource.
Go into Lodging catagory found 2 hotels and dispaly Thai font.
All saved symbols are pretty displayed on map.
Your tool can now write CodePage encoding from registry automatically.
For my computer that tell your tool to make .gpi for 874-CodePage (Thai-Eng font)
Ok, I investigated the issue
Flashed to SG/MAL FW 2.50: The MRT doesn't show up, no matter how close I zoom in
Flashed to EU FW 4.00: MRT symbols show up below 80m. But also in this case they are not visible in the "Where to" selection.
Needless to say that TW FW 3.20 also no MRT symbols show up.
@Turbo
Above you wrote it will look for "My Places.bmp". Not necessary anymore to name it "My Places1.bmp" and "My Places2.bmp"?
I am not sure which symbols were used, cause i had the in the folder MRT the file MRT.bmp, MRT1.bmp and MRT2.bmp
For my testing
- I didn't have .bmp for waypoint symbols in the folder. (It come from "symbols bank" within the tool)
- You need to have your personal .bmp symbol in the folder if it is not in "symbols bank". (I don't know which symbols)
- I didn't test for personal .bmp symbols yet.
50% success.
I assigned gpx files to EPE.
When I click directly on the gpx file, it seems EPE ignores the bmp files in the same folder.
Starting EPE and open then the gpx file, recognizes also the bmp file.
This way I managed to let the MRT show up in the "Where to" Folder.
Now the missing 50%:
When I click the MRT Symbol, it shows only the distance, no name, no street, frankly no information.
I'll post later some screenshots
@aekhong
My folder contained a bmp file for MRT. I think u downloaded the complete package previously and it showed up in ur device
Ok, problem was about 60cm in front of the PC.
My notebook was set to Chinese local, thats why the POI MRT didn't show up in the "Where to" screen, also thats why the POI's showed only distance and nothing else.
After set the notebook to English local, the MRT symbol showed up also the description.
Nevertheless on the map still no symbols
But now the most weird part
Taiwan maps have an additional House Number Search, which is easier to find addresses
As soon as I copy the gpi File to the POI folder the house number search is gone
I can duplicate this, delete the gpi file, house number search is available, copy the gpi file to the POI folder, the house number search is gone
Just to let people know that I am giving a second shot at decrypting encrypted POI files. It looks pretty much like a regular POI file, but with encryption. I have removed the fixed layer of encryption and I am now on the "variable" one.
I do not need any more .gpi file for now. Thanks.
