Myabe im saying something very stupid here, but i was just wondering... if you get on the 55/56/65/65 models a locked offical cn n.a map for example with the unl file together, also its not possible to unlock the map and be ready for navigation??
The unl file is created for the gps´ serial number and can unfortunately not be used in another gps.
So, you need map, unl file and gps with correct serial number together to make it work.

The unlock code for a map is but one part of the protection which 'locks' a map image to a particular GPS device. The other is GMA and it's been with us for some time now. Read this explanation: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Lately Garmin has stepped up the protection in new devices and the currently available unlockers such as [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] don't work for newly introduced devices and probably soon for all devices which get further firmware updates. As far as a new unlocker is concerned, like catymag said in her post directly above yours, it will be posted when it's available. Until then further discussion and speculation among members is just quite pointless unfortunately.

Then, I cannot use Nuvi 55 in South America!
Of course you can. Read post #2. You just can't use unlocked Garmin maps at present.
