Hello, hopefully someone will be able to help me.
I was given a Garmin C510 Sat nav recently and asked to update the map on it, i added a sd card and tried to update it via my Garmin account, unfortunately it didn't work and now i keep getting the error message 'no valid maps' etc.
The unit worked before albeit on an old map, and i stupidly didn't make a backup.
Is there any way i can get it back to it's original working state, even if it's on the old original map?
Thanks for looking.
Will try that many thanks.
Nope that method doesn't work.
I still get the 'No detailed maps' error message.

May you explain what you did?

You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
StreetPilot c3x0 and c5x0 are somewhat similar in appearance but differ radically in operation. SP c3x0 are 'region-only' devices with no visible file system exactly like the earlier StreetPilots and GPSMAP devices. SP c5x0 on the other hand are more closely related to nuvi 3x0/6x0 range and they do have a visible files system accessible in Mass Storage Mode like all modern Garmin devices.
I think that you won't be given the install to SD option by GarminExpress with such an old unit. All you need do is click on 'Map Options' on this screen:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Then you see this:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
As you can see, even with such an old map as the last official update i'm offered a reinstall. You can also download the PC Version [gmap folder] to your computer and make your own custom map to fit on the unit or an SD card using MapInstall.
If you want the latest available UK/EU maps free go here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Keep in mind that you'll be unable to use a single map for the whole of EU in one *.img file because your unit can only see a file size of less than 2GiB. You could make 2 files if you need all EU, one for the unit's Garmin folder and one for SD's Garmin folder [named only gmapsupp.img] keeping both under 2GiB.

Hello Neil thanks for taking the time to reply.
Before posting on this forum i had previously asked Garmin about this and they suggested a method similar to the one you have detailed, and it didn't work, just tried it again and it goes through all the motions but still doesn't work.
I'll try the install to pc option and see if i can do it that way.

Ok managed to get it working with the old mapi'm just grabbing a new map and will try to install that to the sd card.
Thanks again.
Installing new maps on my 4 gig sd card causes the unit to turn off when i try to plan a route? not sure why, but it's working with the old map and that was the main thing i wanted many thanks Neil for all your help.
