Devices showing 'System Software Missing' usually default to preboot mode, meaning Mass Storage Mode isn't available. Unlike WebUpdater and Updater.exe, GarminExpress and Windows Explorer cannot see devices in preboot mode because they rely solely on the device being in mass storage mode or MTP mode.

Usually, re-loading original firmware (aka 'system software') as an RGN file will fix that problem if it's caused by corrupt data written to region 14 (from fw_all.bin). However if the problem is caused by any essential region being unwritable due to physical damage then no software solution is available. Not being able to directly flash an RGN successfully can be an indication of flash memory damage.

It's unlikely, but does the device read/write to a microSD card using txt commands? [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Try backing up it's non-vol memory, probably your device is using region 154, so the command is rrgn,154,2:/154.bin (read here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]).

At least it still recognizes the card so all is not lost yet. I would also try rrgn,154,1:/154.bin for your device. If that doesn't work either, try both rrgn,41,1:/41.bin and rrgn,41,2:/41.bin. If using the same card you must remove last_id.bin from the 2584 folder before each new attempt.
