in first post you can download both eng or chinese versions
Gang,
This Hong Kong map is quite nice, the problem I have is the naming convention for streets/roads. I am not from Hong Kong, so most of the streets I know are in English, like "Sugar St." in Causeway Bay. But the name for Sugar St. in the map is "Tang Jie", and Gloucester Rd has its own Chinese phonetic conversion too. It is going to be a bit hard for me to search for streets I need to go to. Is there a version of the Hong Kong map with English street names?
Thanks for your time.

Hi Catymag how are you? Yes I have downloaded the english version. Inside the RAR file is a folder named "ENG", so I believe this is the English version already. But like I've mentioned, streets with English names were phonetically converted from their real Chinese names. So Sugar St became "Tang Jie", and I believe "Tang" in Chinese means sugar. I would just like to clarify that the names are spelled in English letters, not Chinese characters, but are phonetic conversions from its Chinese name. So to search in this map, one needs to know how the Chinese name sounds like, convert it phonetically to English letters, then try and hope your spelling is the same as the one in the map's database. Therefore if you are going to look for Hennessy Rd., which is a very popular road, you're gonna have to know its Chinese name before you can convert and look for it.
I found another IMG file here that has a Hong Kong map, it's the Garmin City Navigator for South East Asia 4.5 NT. I believe this is older, but the street names are in English if need be (Sugar St. is Sugar St.). Please take note that some Hong Kong streets do not have English names, like Kwong Wah St., or Sai Yeung Choi St., which are fine, at least they are spelled like that even in printed Hong Kong maps you get at the airport. In these printed maps, they use "Sugar St." instead of "Tang Jie".
I really hope this 7.61 version has a version with street names similar to that of the South East Asia 4.5 NT one.
Thanks and regards.

Hi, I am a newby here and also a newby for using navigator. I brought a garmin nuvi 1340. I will be travelling to HK in 3 weeks time. Can someone help me or guide me through how to put HK map onto sd card and how to view in the device. Do i need to download any software to view the map. I saw forum saying about mapsource and basecamp. I totally new to this technology and very grateful if someone can help me. Many many thanks.
download the img you need (CH or ENG)
rename it gmapsupp.img unlock with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
rename it HK.img and copy it in your sd in a folder named Map
In the rar file you'll find a China basemap
you can replace your basemap with the China one when using this map
read :[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
backup your basemap on your pc and replace it (gmapbmap.img)
