OK, So I got the unlocked new gmapsupp.img file in my computer but I have a etrex Vista without a sd card. 1) How do I start the download 2)As far as I know it only has 24MB of memory, can I download this file to it? if not the complete file than can I pick and choose somehow for a max of 24MB? thanks for all your help. This is a great site. ~Mark
This map is 1.7 GB , it wont fit your device
probably the best option for you is to download this Alaska map ,Mapsource version
and send the parts you need to your gps: 24Mb is a small spaceCode:Please Login or Register to see the links

You can use gmaptool to create a version for Mapsource, and then you can choose the tiles you want. You will loose the ability to search.
You need to split the large gmapsupp.img into parts readable to Mapsource.
This can be done with Gmaptool, look in the sticky index posts in the forum on where to find it and how to do, they are great for finding info!
After having done this you will be able to see the map in Mapsource, how to set up Mapsource can also be found in the forum.
In Mapsource you can select smaller tiles that can be sent to the gps. I guess that 24MB will not be enough for too many square miles of topo maps but it is worth a try.
Thanks everybody. I'll give it a try. ~Mark
I am so confused. I've read the tutorials. I've downloaded basecamp, mapsource, gmaptool, cgpsmapper and the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but can't seem to split it or view it other than in its entirety in mapsource and basecamp. Sorry about being so novice. Could some help and spell it out a it more? I sure would appreicate it. ~Mark
Ok, you've downloaded the MapSource version recommended by catymag and you have it installed in MS. Forget the 'red herrings' about loading image files into MS with GMapTool because you won't have search. You've actually done the hardest part, the rest is relatively easy so relax and view the video linked in the following tutorial about selecting only the parts you want from MS: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. You are not going to get many map tiles unless you can clear some more space on your unit though.
