FYI, after purchasing the traffic add-on, I am extremely disappointed. I find that it did not know of multiple traffic slowdowns on my route home today, though after disabling it and restarting the GPS so that it would connect to FM traffic, it knew of them immediately. I confirmed that this was not just a product of the extra time during the reboot by reconnecting it to the smartphone link traffic and noting that they were still not there!

I'm not talking about the new HD radio traffic, either. I am talking the base GTM 35 receiver that came with my 2595LMT (standard FM-rds traffic). One thing I have noticed is that the smartphone link traffic has a bit more detail (when there is an incident showing traffic congestion, it will show the speed of traffic whereas the FM traffic will not), but this is hardly useful when it misses incidents entirely or is extremely delayed.

No, it's not showing the Garmin map on the phone. This app is using the mobile phone in the same way as the Garmin nLink GPS models with a mobile broadband connection. In this SmartPhone Link case it connects through Bluetooth and uses the data connection in the mobile phone as a gateway to internet.

In "my" experience, the Traffic services are nearly useless. I can't speak about the new HD services as I have no experience with them, but the regular traffic has never.... never... saved my butt or given me a legitimate warning about traffic.

It has done the opposite on occasion.... where it "warns" me of a traffic jam where none exist.

I have read better reports of the so called "live" traffic, such as those provided with Nu-Link. And I hold out h0ope that the new SmartPhone Link will allow for better traffic reports since it can be used as a sort of "Live" traffic reporting system and is "sort of" sinmilar to the way NuLink worked.

To get the best out of Smartphone Link app and to be able to send addresses and locations from Android Google Maps, you need to install [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in countries that Google Navigation is not enabled yet.

After you find a location with Maps, you press Directions button and as you press the Navigation button, a popup window appears, you select Smartphone Link and the location is send to your Nuvi and saved in Recent (Nuvi and phone connected).
Even if you don't have your Nuvi with you, you can temporary save a location in Smartphone Link app from Maps and the next time your Nuvi is connected to Smartphone Link, this location is transferred to your Nuvi.

Your Nuvi's Favorites and Recent are automatically saved in Smartphone Link app (and refreshed every time you reconnect), so you can navigate to them using Maps app, when your Nuvi is not available!

After you connect your Nuvi to Smartphone Link and start driving a route, your Destination is saved on the phone too.
You can park your car, take the the nuvi out of its mount before you turn off the engine and your Parking Location is saved on the phone too.
You can leave your Nuvi in the car and continue navigating to your original Destination using your phone with Maps app
You can also navigate back to your car using your phone again.
Even if you don't drive a route but your Nuvi and phone are connected and you take the the nuvi out of its mount before you turn off the engine, your Parking Location is again saved on the phone, so you can navigate back to your car.

    Hello all,

I'm using a 3790, re-flashed to 3490, many thanx for all the info on this forum!

Connected it to the Smartphone link-app on my Samsung galaxy SII, purchased the "Live traffic" service, and all is working fine, unit is receiving traffic and weatherdata... as long as my phone's internet connection is trough my home WIFI.
Off couse i have mobile internet on the phone, but for some reason the smartphone-link data won't come trough. The nuvi just sits there, waiting for data. As soon as i re-enable WIFI new data comes in within a few minutes... Clueless...

    Any suggestions?
