I was browsing the boot.bin of nuvi 1xxx 5.80 and I found this command near all the other commands.
I think that it's part of the command set discussed in this topic.
refresh,<factory|start|stop>
Doe anyone know what this command does ?

I've discovered that it's possible to force update.txt execution while flashing boot.bin from RGN.
The good news is that the firmware isn't involved at all, so we can use it for curing.
You can do this it the following way:
1) Patch the boot.bin
1.1) Find bytes 0C 80 A0 E1 at the beginning of the boot.bin. Note, these bytes have to be four-byte aligned.
1.2) Replace the bytes with 0C 80 A0 E3
2) Prepare & copy update.txt into its usual place on SD card, then insert that SD card into your device
3) make RGN from the boot.bin and flash it
4) update.txt is executed

Strange thing... At least for nuvi 6xx the replacement string should be 02 80 A0 E3.
Hi I am trying to cure nuvi 1100 using sd card method. It gets stuck in flashing garmin logo loop. It contains 4.00 sw. First I tried to cure it with garmincure3 tool using 4.00 gcd. Preboot mode was entered via top left corner trick. I see loader loading then sw missing message. Then I tried the sd card method.
I am not able to execute commands in updater.txt. Here is what I did
1) using rgntool extracted boot.bin from nuvi12xx_GCDFile__580.gcd. Patched it (replaced 0C 80 A0 E1 with 0C 80 A0 E3). Then unchecked other bin files and saved the rgn as 097101000580.rgn.
2) On an empty sd card (4gb) created Garmin\Updater\0971 folder and placed updater.txt. It contains the following commands
I am first trying to get files out of the device to sd card. I don't see any files being copied to sd card
copy,0:/Garmin/GarminDevice.xml,1:/original/GarminDevice.xml
copydir,0:/Garmin,1:/original/
copydir,0:/Garmin,1:/original
copydir,0:/.System,1:/original/System
copydir,0:/.System,1:/original/System/
copydir,0:/Vehicle,1:/original/Vehicle
copydir,0:/Text,1:/original/Text
copydir,0:/Voice,1:/original/Voice
copydir,0:/Keyboards,1:/original/Keyboard
copydir,0:/Help,1:/original/Help
reboot
I have another nuvi 1100 which works. I was hoping to copy files from good one to bad one via sd card. Any help is appreciated. I have also tried copying the 12xx files from this thread via sd card but it did not work either.
I've seen a similar error [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Can you flash an RGN file with the original firmware?
0C 80 A0 E3 is the right patch for nuvi 12xx, it should work on a healthy device.
Also you can try [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to access the internal flash drive. It's almost the same as QuickCure3.rgn, but it has a flasher application.
Thanks kunix for your prompt reply. I will try quickcure 3 with flasher application tonight and post results. I can not flash original firmware rgn file. I have tried version 4.00, 5.8 and 5.9. I can see loader loading message followed by software missing on garmin screen. On PC the progress bar will go to 100% then after some time there will be an error message saying can not erase region ... I will post an exact message tonight. Flashing cure rgn also gives error except with 4.00 firmware. No error will be reported flashing cure file from 4.00 gcd but garmin does not enter mass storage mode. The following post exactly describes my problem even the bit about buying from ebay except my unit is nuvi 1100.

Unfortunately I was not able to access garmin internal flash drive. The tool will be successful in downloading the payload but the garmin will revert to flashing garmin logo. Here is the text output from tool.
QuickCure3 v0.1 by kunix
payload comment:
HWID&SWVR; MOV R8,R12
Initializing USB...
hwid = 971
swvr = 400
name = nⁿvi 12xx Series Software Version 4.00
sending the payload...
all done
now the device should enter the mass storage mode
Press any key to continue . . .
ok, the miracle didn't happen.
It looks like your device's flash chip is broken, so my cure isn't what you need.
is there a way to confirm that flash chip is broken. Can you please help me to figure out the sd card method. Why updater.txt commands are not executed. This post [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] hints that if you are not able to use the sd card method to erase/program region then the flash chip is broken.
