Default Updating Nuvi 680 - good idea?

I have a Garmin Nuvi 680 which was webupdated a few years ago. I am of the motto - if it aint broke, don't fix it.

First off, I know I should always keep the unit current with updates; however, like any software I am concerned that Garmin may update how we get around locked files, etc. Not to sound like a paraniod freak, but my unit is working flawlessly as-is. I connected my unit to try to load some new maps and of course the updater informed me that a 10mb update was available. That seems like a huge file. In efforts to keep storage down to make room for maps, I have deleted all unecesssary files like unused vehicles, unused sounds, etc. So adding 10 megs of updates sounds conter intuitive. Currently at software version 4.5 updates want to bring to 4.9.

Is anyone aware of issue with updates. A quick search did not yield any answers, so I figured I'd simply just ask the question. -----> Have any updates limited free use of any kind. I keep hearing about GMA info, so I'm not sure about that.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
