Default nuvi 3790 backup files corrupt

To make a long story short, I converted my nuvi 3790 with a linux based firmware to use as a tracking device. I backed up the files as normal including the firmware and when the time came to restore, the files that are supposed to sit on the gps "sd card" portion were all corrupt somehow..
I was able to reflash garmin firmware back to the device, but it fails to load anything (seeing as the drive is empty).
I can't really find anywhere on this site(or others) that can help. All I need is a copy of the files located on the root folder. Including the .System hidden one.
If anyone were to package this up in a zip and be able to host it for a day or so, I'd be most grateful. Being that this is a $250 paperweight at the moment lol...
    cheers

    3)reinstall firmware

    4) run webupdater

You just need Garmin Device.xml to populate your Nuvi, Webupdater and some downloads from forum will do the rest.

If Kunix's cure doesnt work, I guess you must send it to Garmin
    good luck

You have to navigate to get to the good.

garmindevice.xml is not available, and contains data device specific unfortunately...
I have replaced all the files with ones from another device, and it still failed to work correctly. I suppose I will just return it and save the headache. I think I'll leave the garmin and try a tomtom, see how much more configurable they are.... dang proprietary designs.... thanks for the input anyways.

The problem is you hadnt a good backup and ,most of all ,no NV backup.
Before doing such a modification, you had to think at having them. I think with TT should be the same.

Yeah, agreed. Normally my backups are solid. In this particular case I encountered a bad sector in the area where those files were stored. Bad luck on an aging portable HD. Ahh well, lessons are best learned the hard way
At least it wasn't critical data that I care a lot about!

Run webupdater and you can download all that you need.
If you have totaly empty nuvi, create new folder and add name Garmin, turn off and then ON nuvi and you will have garmindevice.xml inside and now run webupdater.

If garmindevice.xml don't create, then use prepusb tool to format nuvi and then create folder Garmin and you will have garmindevice.xml inside when you turn off/on nuvi.
