A simple problem to solve: just use the webupdater with a Virtual Drive with Garmin folder and GarminDevice.xml of the nuvi 140/150T. The GUPDATE.GCD is downloaded in folder .System created by WebUpdater. Additional updates can also be downloaded. As we do not know which the first version of the firmware installed is desirable, but not mandatory, to change it to 1.00 or below in GarminDevice.xml

In either case we need access to a 140/150, whether to attempt a region scan using 40/50 boot bin or to obtain a copy of the GarminDevice.xml. Is lowering the version of the installed fw in the xml strictly necessary, won't WebUpdater still offer the option to reinstall the same version anyway even though the xml shows the latest (ie initial release) version?:



I've got a US 40 that only owes me about $50 so i'm prepared to risk bricking it if anyone can get 140/150 fw.

Is Giomen back from Germany with his new 140/150 yet, dammit?

Is it Garmin's information or official policy that they confirm? The availability of the first fw in server may have more to do with isolated problems of logistics in times of releases ..
Anyway, if we are not sure, in this and other cases, I have no doubt that it is worth trying to download the first firmware release, when we need and we have no alternative ..
The work of the attempt is near zero, just get garmindevice.xml

I may confirm it, if you want! No initial software are on garmin server (no difference for software or additional files and modules). Only UAT program is working.

Let's go! UAT software is not such a big secret. The top secret is model name only! Today we have the only suitable variant. It is UAT 002 with PartNumber - 006-B1613-00. There are a suitable size and a link for the same keyboards file inside:

Yep... That's the one. But I can't get traffic on the modded 40 with GTM 25, 26 or 35. Identifies as Nuvi 42 and has nice new look though.

Doesn't offer to reinstall the same version, Loly, Angelo & Giomen were right (of course)



And it's happy with the standard 30/40/50 files

Usual cautions and disclaimers apply, use it at your own risk and if you brick your 40/50, don't blame me (hit Giomen up for a new one instead).

Usual 40/50 JCV & Text etc files work OK.

Now need an 'advanced user' to jig the traffic in the fw so it can use an external receiver.

P.S. And if you do intend to load this modded fw, make sure you do an nv backup first as loly kindly reminds us in a later post. (For the record, yes i did!).
