Default How to use an unsupported (i.e. Indonesian) Voice on US 1490

    Hi..
I have garmin nuvi 1490, it had frozen, then I use tutorial in this forum from kunix, thanks to kunix. now my version is 6.20.

the problem is, my native language can not be used again, I am from indonesia. I used to use damayanti voice, but now, if I try to use damayanthi voice, the device tells that "audio incompatible".

I believe I should downgrade my version, because I have tried to use RGN voice editor to put damayanti in it, but still there is a warning says : "no updates are available for your product" while I'm trying to update it to edited 620.gcd

Please help me how to downgrade it so I can use my bahasa indonesia again on my device.

for notice, I have tried to search 5.20.gcd, but it seems the links are dead.

    thanks guys for your help.

I think that you have made your device a US device now.
Do you have your original firmware before the Nuvi bricked ? files backup ?

Downloading to a lower US version would probably not help.
Hang in there someone will direct you in the correct firmware for your unit.

I don't think 1490 were sold officially in ID or SG/MY, and maybe not in other parts of SEA either. The closely related 1460 was sold in both Singapore/Malaysia & Indonesia:

Recheck your work , you can flash the same version using updater.exe as many times as you like.

I agree with dasilvarsa. There is no reason why the correct TTS voice won't work so downgrading the fw version would seem pointless. You may need to flash ID fw to use the voice.

I believe this is the correct file, but it also gives 'Incompatible Audio Version' in my US 1450:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
To flash it drag it onto updater.exe with your nuvi connected in preboot, or drag it on to WebUpdater with it connected in Mass Storage Mode. If it still won't flash, try the following:

To obtain the voice file, open Voice,Indonesian,Damayanti_TTS__WebUpdater__100.rgn with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], you will receive a message 'unsupported section identifier: XXXX', press "OK" to continue. Then use the 'Save' button to save 'unknown.bin' and change it's name and extension to 'Indonesian__Damayanti.vpm'. The file size should be 21,402 KB and the MD5 hash is DAC1C19B09ACE27105BD169FC9D2E626. Put the voice file with that exact name in your nuvi's Voice folder removing any other version of the voice.

I asked earlier "What is your device origin?" for a reason. So if the above doesn't work, can you confirm that you have an original US/EU hardware version or is it some other localised version 14x0 you have flashed to US/EU fw? It is possible to flash ID fw to other localisation hardware units provided the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] are the same. ID 1460 has the same PCB P/N as US/EU 14x0.

OK, so you had an original US 1490 > flashed with Indonesian firmware to 1460 ID > bricked > cured with Cure3 [US firmware] > so it is now back to HWID 0972 1490 US as it was originally.

The thing is that when you cure a device, the usual rule is that you make the cure firmware using the firmware that's currently on the device. We can convert your unit to ID again, that's not a problem and the Damayanthi voice will work. The problem may be that the device bricked because of the original conversion US > ID. So to me it would make more sense to use RGNVoiceEditor to make your US fw compatible with the ID voice. You can get the latest Version 2.02 from this post#22: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

If you decide to do that [which is my recommendation] and you need assistance then post in the above thread for RGNVoiceEditor. Otherwise, if you really want to re-convert your 1490 to ID 1460 again you can do that by either flashing the complete ID fw or using the US boot.bin combined with ID fw1_resources.bin and fw_all.bin. The latter is a little safer. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] as a guide only on how to do both methods, or post again here and i'll help you.

Hi neil, I have tried to use updater.exe, following your guide, I change one of the voice listing to damayanthi using RGN voice editor, then I update the fw. It seems work, because there is no more warning about incompatibility, but the new problem comes, my device after couple minutes turn off and totally dead. I have tried to charge it via USB computer and car lighter but still won't work. Is it possible because of my battery?

I meant for you to do one or the other, change the US fw using RGNVoiceEditor to make the Indonesian voice compatible with it [which is what i recommended], or reflash the unit to ID 1460 [which i didn't recommend as that may have bricked your unit in the first place].

I'm really not sure what you mean by the above post. Have you done both of those things?

Can you get it into preboot mode so it's seen by updater.exe?

my device totally dead, and updater can not recognize my device. I have changed the us fw to indonesian voice compatible using RGN voice editor. once my device has totally dead, can not be charged to car lighter, but worked when connected to usb.
