For me it works flawlessly with the following settings:
[andoid]
background_shutdown_timeout=0
[gps]
background_navigation=1
Nothing more for this feature
So I have the instructions on my helmet speaker via Bluetooth
Android 10 phone.
Basar Nextgen
Using following lines:
[android]
background_shutdown_timeout=0
background_navigation_enabled=1
Wont run in background. As soon as I close the screen igo stops working. Open screen again and it then continues from where it previously stopped.
I need this to run in background for audio only on my motorbike.

That too worked fine for me on my previous phone (Android 9)
Dont know if this is a problem with Android 10 or if it is a specific phone model problem.
Phone used is LG G7 ThinQ. Maybe a permissions thing but they all seem to check out.
Just tested it on another device with Android 11. No problems, everything works fine.
So probably a device problem or wrong device settings
You could be right. When I get a new phone the first thing I do is root it then get rid or freeze as much as I possibly can that bears the name google. Likewise the LG is hosted with a load of LG trash which also gets frozen.
Thing is somewhere down the line this has undesired affects on certain apps. God I hate Gapps. What happened to freedom of choice.
So for now I will just have to run it with screen on, at least it works.
I thought about giving Primo a try but its just coming up with
"User interface resolution (1440x2585) is not supported or campatible skin can not be found. Exiting application"
Thank you so much mate. Its not quite right but it is functional. I tried all sorts but gave up on it. I will try this one now with screen off first chance I get. If it still closes down with screen off then I can at least use the HUD ux addon with screen on which will save some battey juice.
if you explain to me exactly what it is about, may be we can fix the problem.
put a few prentscreen on the phone.
When I use Primo and close the screen I get a verbal message shortly afterwards saying gps signal lost. So this surely has to be phone specific although I just cant put my finger on it as to why.
Screen on Primo is rather small as in zoomed out. Will attempt some screenshots later on.
Heres the loading screen, way too small but no big deal.
The map appears to be constantly redrawing itself.
It is zoomed out way too much.
Boxes are too deep including black band on bottom. Text and icons/buttons too small. Theres a shadow in the centre of the screen and some kind of overlapping
Anyway I dont want to clutter this site up with lots of photos so you can see them here

As soon as I see that the iGO does not take up the entire screen...
It is problem with your device/system. Or almost certainly with you.
It is also possible that you have not set up the package adequately, you put some problematic ux, wrong setup in sys, tails from other installations, mixing content from old Primo to NG, old habits etc..
Again, read carefully
