THE BEST DEVICE TO BUY (Droid, WINCE, iOS etc)

Hello friends...

Some time passed since I posted questions about [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Since I am a bit dissapointed with the way NNG treats its customers...I was thinking what should I do now, or what would be the best choice, the best device for navigation.

Let us focus on iGO here but it does not have to be... THE QUESTION IS SIMPLE

WHAT IS THE BEST DEVICE, SMARTPHONE, WIN CE DEVICE TO BUY FOR YOUR NAVIGATION?

So when suggesting device please take the following into consideration.

CRITERIA

- GPS LOCKDOWN
- BATTERY
- SPEED (Fluidity)
- SPACE (Memory)
- EXPANSION SLOTS
- SCREEN (Resolution)
- SIZE
- OS
- MAP UPDATES
- PRICE

In the end maybe we can create A POLL and vote for it. This could be a good guide to all those newbies what to buy and how to choose it.

What I tried so far and my judgment is:

ANDROID
No.1 SAMSUNG devices (GPS lockdown, support for iGO)

What I have heard
WINCE

Is the purpose of the poll and this thread about which hardware device is "best" running NNG proggy? Or is it which NNG proggy is best? And "best" could be defined by many different criterias.

Device, which is the best device to buy for navigation mostly iGo but other too. wince igo wince syguc becker pioneer etc. Tomorrow I will fix. this post,. it is. not quite clear. I asked @Boki_Srb to. help me. So. maybe admins moda . can do. jt. too to. make it more clear. Basically it is post about What device to buy? Android Smartphone tablet or wince tablet or original becker... what would be the best choice because NOT ALWAYS THE MOST EXPENSIVE IS THE BEST CHOICE.

Android OS has best flexibility and most convenient because there are many different proggy (NNG, Sygic, Navigon, Garmin, Waze, etc...) that can run on it. Then WinCE is next. Dedicated PNA from Garmin, Navigon, TomTom will only run their own proggy. NNG is most/easiest to hack/mod. NNG and Sygic can use both HERE and TomTom contents. Garmin has best non-TTS voice features while NNG has most flexible TTS voices (it can use android, Loquendo, Nuance, etc...) Regarding speedcam, NNG .spc are directional as well as Cyclops for Garmin. I think speedcam from Sygic is also directional. Regarding OSM data, Sygic and Garmin have access to it. NNG online contents also are better with some proggy able to access Weather, Parking, Search, etc... Sygic has worst stability with problem in pretty much with any new update. I've heard good thing about CoPilot but unless recently changed, you can't download map per states (has to be entire US or NA) Same with Garmin and TomTom map data, but at least with Garmin you could create your own map that is a subset of it.

May I first comment on the first thing I spotted on this page, which (for now?) is the poll?
So far showing only 3 brands (Samsung, Becker, Pioneer). This is misleading and also limits the choice too hard. But the choice will be expanded as the numbers of posts grow, I think.
E.g. I have a 5" Motorola Moto G (2015) smartphone running NextGen smoothly and IMHO it meets every possible criteria mentioned higher including it is cheap.

Shouldn't the poll not be more general like "Smartphone, tablet, handheld, inbuild"? Am I missing a possibility? Second the OS (Androis, WinCE, IOS, (dedicated?))
One then could specify a specific device in posting. This could be a long thread

Oh, and when not build in the car/truck, how it is fixed in the car could be interesting to know as well.

As for "proggy" I guess that discussion will be endless as well. Osiris already gave wonderful information, but forgot google maps, Waze, HERE we go, MapsMe, .... just to name 4 of many. Then the choice for off line or on line maps, speedcams (e.g. AFAIK not on HERE), information on screen (e.g google doesn't show current speed, needing an extra app like velociraptor) traffic information, speed of map updates (just watch how quickly waze reacts on changing situations like 1 way streets), ....

This could be the beginning of a very long discussion thread.

Yeah I. need to. speak with administration (who is administered now) I. made that mistake and I. need to. expand Poll. I. will organize this post better, I. need to REWRITE. and. to better suit the purpose. Please give me. ideas,. let us make this post very useful with Polls and infos. Give me. ideas how we should make this post more useful. I. would really like people to. share their experience and. with Poll hopefully we. can have good overview what People should buy.

Maybe this should not be in iGO section but general discussion so. we can decide.

Temp global mod is Magnetron, he might be able to change the poll for you.
I think if you're going to ask which "devices" (it might already have poll for that), it should be out of NNG section. The devices choice should be
1. Phone
2. PNA
3. 2DIN
4. Other
or you can ask which OS
1. Android
2. iOS
3. Windows
4. Other
Notice I did not mention the word "best" because it will open the poll to a discussion. If that is your intent, then you might want to mention to the users to tell why it is "best" for them. And stick with facts rather than opinions.

Hopefully @Magnetron will reply to this and. that is a great idea Osiris. Make poll and if. somebody comment please elaborate why that device is good.

Osiris, by 2DIN you mean build in off factory and/or build in after (e.g.device from eBay?) It may be worth making the difference as some car brands stick to a certain entertainment/GPS brand like Becker (Mercedes I believe), Sony (Ford, ...) and may vary during years/model.
Besides, we have a subforum for car navigation systems.
