What is this: Cyclops directional alerts is great but it doesn't work on Street Pilot. Alternative is to use SCDB, but it's not directional and no audio. I've been working on extracting Cyclops data and building alerts using Garmin GPI Creator. It's complicated and is work-in-progress. US/Can alerts is easier than other regions since it doesn't have Section/Average alerts. My algorithm works well for Redlight, but need tweaking for Fix and Mobile alerts; it definitely need lots of work for Section. This converted alerts should also work on any Garmin unit that Cyclops doesn't work/isn't available.
US/Can convert is available now at: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Features:
1. Converted from Cyclops 3-pts alert data (which only one point is guarantee to be on the road so it makes strategy for conversion complicated)**
2. Using 24x24 icons (very time consuming to convert from SCDB 48x48 since I don't like the 22x22 size; when dealing with this small size every pixel counts!)
3. Using DingDing (the loudess sound, others are Beep,3-Beeps and Ding) audio
4. For redlight, it also have streetview (if available) and intersection info*
5. For non-redlight, it also have mapview (if available)*
6. Each alert has street name and direction of travelled (this will be extremely useful for searching and viewing)
* to be trimmed based on size (Street Pilot have limit on .gpi size)
** parsing of Cyclops record is far from being complete. There are guesses and assumptions (nothing is guarantee to be correct). There are rules that so far seems to hold: 1) always 3-pts, called them pt1, pt2, and pt3 2) pt3 is always on road 3) in direction of travel you will encountered pt2, pt3 and pt1 in that order 4) distant between pt3 to pt2 is small compared to distant between pt3 and pt1 5) alert types and speed seems to be correct
Since I do not have time nor resource to work on all regions; this polling is needed and I've set polling time period for one month so everyone can get a chance to vote.
Note: It's Slovakia in safety_camera_czech_poland_slovenia.gpi not Slovenia (the folks at Cyclops errored)

Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?
It is not have any worth but user can peck at the Russia in name. Do you want to do useless work?

Why do you not want to share tool to convert Garmin gpi into gpx or another editable format? It is more critical for advanced users!

For now, tool is not complete nor designed for end-user. Process for doing this is complex and I would say mildly: pain in the butt. I have to constantly edit my tool to do it. To give you an idea, extraction of mapview, streetview, rangeview, streetname and intersection data takes a long long time (many URLs queried and timeout) and large amount of storage required. Then running Garmin GPI Creator Toolkit on the .xml file took over an hour for large region like US/Can. Least to say Garmin GPI Creator is not very forgiven (many exceptions and program would just died) Not fun to debug 10000+ lines of data to see where the problems are.
But never give up in asking nicely though (you might get lucky one day); like Neil said, I'll find out soon or later.
Looks like Italy won with 4 votes, followed by Aussie land with 3. With the next Cyclop update for Italy, I will build it and if I have enough time will do for others regions. But priority will be given to Italy when there are issues/problems to be resolved.
Hope you can get around to doing the Aussie region soon... gotta say I'm surprised that only 3 of us bothered to vote for such a useful project... guess we're too busy being shocked by our stupid politicians at the moment...
It should be no problem to create them, I just wanted to make sure that support will be given to higher votes region Check out [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for discussion and a test Aussie build of point-to-point alert (Neil is helping out with that). It will be the basis of all "Average cam" creation, so if there are any input on how it should be done, it would be now.
