Ola,
Does anyone have experience with installing GMPC on a windows 8.1 system, 32 or 64 bit system?
A friend asked me to think about the best solution for a big screen in-car off-road solution. I was thinking tablets or even MS's SurfacePro 2 or 3.
thanks in advance for your thoughts.
I don't think MPC can display topo maps properly as stated in my previous post.
Better solution could be an Android tablet running Street Pilot, but look at phones&tablets section for the right file/resolution.
sent with my phone
You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
Streetpilot is primaraly ment for urban navigation but it is not possible to load a PC-made track or route into it like we are used to do with mapSource (I still prefer that) or BaseCamp.
What I am looking for is a solution like nRoute but capable of running the latest map file and using it in, for instance, the desert of Morocco.
Of course there's Quavadis, Fugawi, Ozieplorer and such but they are all not fully capable of using Garmin files. Plus I find it (too) complicated.
If I would have a lot of time I would dive into that direction.
Android Street Pilot can show topo maps and has trip planner feature.

I will give it a thought.
EDIT: what I'm REALLY looking for is a solution to send TRACKS to a device (tablet, phone or Samsung Note)
The platform is not so important, it may be Windows or Android. Because that seems not possible with SP on Android I was thinking Windows.
But than you run into old, non supported software like nRoute/MobilePC for moving map solutions ....
With MobilePC I run into the same problems of track import/export.....
nRoute is so old, it can not deal with maps after 2008......
you understand the dilemma?
I wonder how ASO (organizer of DAKAR rally) deals with that? They go out every year on track finding missions. Probably they use Quovadis/Oziexplorer. But those have limited compatibility with Garmin maps......... ARGHHHH!!!!!!!
And I love Garmin Maps...
