I apologize in advance if this sounds a bit rude, but is there a step-by-step walkthrough to make the edits to the file ourselves to allow MapInstall to write map files to hard drives?

Is it just me or are the instructions for installations a bit vague?
I am 43 yrs old and have worked outside away from offices and computers my whole life and am having a hell of a time trying to understand most of the instructions in these forums.
We didnt even have computers in high school so its like a different language to me.
Instructions
Things You'll Need
- Garmin GPS with USB connection cable
- 1 Plug the USB cable into the port on the Garmin GPS and insert the other end into your a port on your computer.
- 2 Click "Start" and select the "All Programs" list. Choose the "MapInstall" entry to launch the Garmin MapInstall program.
- 3 Click "Continue" in the Welcome screen of the Mapinstall and select your GPS in the list of devices drop-down. Click "Continue." Select the maps you want to update and send to the GPS.
- 4 Click "Send Maps" to transfer the new map information to your GPS device. A progress bar will open, detailing the installation process for the new maps. Click "Done" once the progress bar is complete to end the install process. You can now disconnect your device and close the utility.
Tips & Warnings
Do not disconnect your device while the installation process is underway or else you risk damaging all the data on your device's hard drive.
